Profile

Oxford Revelation Rock-Gospel Choir (Rev or OxRev for short) is a
non-auditioning rock-gospel choir.  That means we get to sing what we
like, but it's usually energetic or soulful, and always fun
(hopefully).

Absolutely everyone is welcome, regardless of faith, music-reading
ability or even singing ability.  If you ever thought "I'd lo...

E-mail: [oxrev] 8th Week Newsletter: Rev in the Park - PARTY - CDs & T-shirts...

Hello!

Something different for you this week:

Rev in the Park!
============
The FINAL rev rehearsal of 2007/08 will be taking place IN UNIVERSITY PARKS at 7.30pm tomorrow, Tuesday the 10th of June. If somehow the weather is horrid, we’ll be in Exeter Chapel, but the forecast is generally great. Let’s meet near the Keble Gate (opposite Keble College) and I suspect we’ll then move on to sit under the trees somewhere, but you should be able to find us! Note, we’ll bring sweets and biscuits, but PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN DRINKS/WATER!

Party in the Park!
=============
Sometime during the rehearsal, probably about 8.30pm, we’ll relax some more (!) and start to have a party, with fun party games and activities. If you feel like it, please bring party-supplies; whatever you’d like! Although a Rev party is likely to be mostly about cakes and sweets, you’re welcome to bring wine/drink of your choice to enjoy on the summer evening if you like; I’ll bring some cups. The parks close at 9.30pm at which point we’ll probably head to Corpus.

T-Shirts!
======
Would you like a lovely green Oxford-Rev T-shirt? As seen here: http://photos-g.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v39/209/69/36801284/n36801284_31188294_7094.jpg If so, there are just four left (3 Large, 1 Medium) available for £5 each, on a first-come first-served basis. Write back to me if you want one stating which size. They can be pidged to you or collected at Rehearsal (but pre-arrange please).

CDs!
====
Not too long ago, Oxford Rev made a CD containing 16 tracks of marvellous Revvy-fun including many of the songs we sing now. We have a big box of these left so we’re selling them for the bargain price of £3 each. They come in a proper album box with full colour cover and inlay and used to be sold for a lot more money. Again, these can be pidged to you or bought at Rehearsal; write back to me if you’re interested.

Summer!
=======
Warwick Piazza weekend is the 20th to 23rd of June and you need to organise going NOW if you’ve not already.
Edinburgh RESiTS run during the festival in August from the 15th for a week. Mail me or look on the websites for more info.

Finally!
=====
If we don’t see you tomorrow, have a wonderful summer and we look forward to catching you next year. For the few who’ll be leaving Oxford for the big wide world, fare well and do stay in touch/come back to visit.

Peace.

Simon.

Two weeks of term left and two rev rehearsals left!

The next being tomorrow night, Tuesday the 3rd of June, at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel. I personally won’t be there, so if you’re one of the people who often turns up early and I’m not there, don’t worry, it will still be happening!

News wise, you need to decide NOW if you’re going to stay over at the Rev Piazza concert weekend on the 21st and 22nd of June. Look here for more info: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=13430837678 and let me know if you’re going, please :o) It’s all free (except food and drink) and promises to be LOTS of fun.

Do hope you’re all well, please WATCH YOUR INBOXES for news of busking and social event-fun coming very soon!

Cheerio,

Simon.

‘ello,

For the world outside the bubble we call Ox’ford, today is a Bank Holiday, meaning that some people have stayed at home drinking tea and generally being slightly bored. However, boredom will be far from our minds on Tuesday night at 7.30pm in Exeter College Chapel, when the next Rev rehersal is due to start!

As always, everyone is welcome, just come along, say Hi and join in.

Anyways, back to the tea…

Does term seem to be lasting forever?
Or do you wonder how you’ll get everything done in the scant remaining time
? Whichever it is, take a break and de-stress by coming along to Rev, tomorrow (Tuesday), at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel.

As always, new members are welcome at any point so it’s not too late to join in!

As for events, well, there’s the Warwick concert and weekend away on 21st and 22nd June and there’s Edinburgh RESiTS 19th-26th August.

In 7th or 8th week we may well put on a Concert (to be decided) and there’ll certainly be a busking/punting/picnicing trip, probably on a Saturday, so watch this space!

That is all for now!

Si.

  • I don’t consider the stresses of an Oxford term a totally laughing matter, so please remember there’s support available if you need, in lots of places, such as your college Welfare Officers, the Student’s Union and Nightline.

E-mail: [oxrev] 4th Week Newsletter: 1/2 Way Through Term! Eeek!

Good day,

Herin lie details of the next Oxford Revelation Rock Gospel Choir rehearsal/get together, which is, tomorrow, Tuesday the 13th of May at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel. Last week saw the joy of new faces, the pain of the concentration needed for of the clappy-tappy cup game and the comedy of my trying to sing soprano… So, you should come along, because it’s fun…

In an amazingly skilled feat, the website detailing Warwick’s Piazza concert manages to completely fail to mention the dates, despite referring to whether to arrive on Saturday or Friday night… I will endeavour to find out more (if you know (David, hint hint) please let me know). EDINBURGH rev are holding their RESiTS event from the 19th -26th August, so if you fancy a week in Edinburgh at festival time, singing and making new friends, then start planning and figuring now.

Finally, there are some CDs and T-SHIRTS left over to buy from previous years – if you’re interesting in getting some of these, then send me a message, or come and say hi on Tuesdays.

I’m off to generally be too hot and long to be outside,

Yours hurriedly,

Simon

This week’s news is:

It’s sunny; brilliant!
(Although to those of us with work/finals, this is a little bittersweet… )

There is not much other news. You already know that we’re meeting for more mirth and beautiful songs TONIGHT at 7.30pm at Exeter College Chapel, so that’s not really worthy of a news message. As always, everyone is welcome to the rehearsal and you needn’t stay for the whole thing.

Oooh, actually, I should tell you about an event by Warwick Rev called the piazza concert on Warwick campus, which is coming up and should be lots of fun – Oxford has made many Warwick friends and we’re well received when we visit. Looking further, in the summer is coming ‘Revelation in Edinburgh Singing in The Sun’, or RESITS – held in Edinburgh at festival time it’s a crazy holiday which I know a few of us are going up too, so you may want to think about coming too (see http://www.edrev.co.uk/resits/ ).

I shall let you get on now…

Simon.

E-mail: [oxrev] 2nd Week Newsletter: Sunshine and Showers

Good Morrow,

Welcome to 2nd week - if you weren’t around last week you missed some great new songs, as well as the chance to catch up everyone you’d not seen all Easter. Thursday night saw a highly successful visit to Warwick Rev; we made even more friends there – it was an awesome trip and really good to take part in other Revs. We’ve invited some of the Warwickers to come along to see us later in the term and we may still return to them…

Anyway; our next rehearsal is TUESDAY at 7.30pm in Exeter College chapel.

As always, everyone is welcome regardless of singing experience, skill, time commitments, faith – the choir is all about having fun and singing together.

‘tis all for now,

Simon.

Lo.
And so, the final term of the year is upon us.
I’d noticed, because things have been manically busy. So much so, that I forgot to send the ‘news’ e-mail yesterday. So here it is today.
Ta-da.

REHERSAL TONIGHT! 7.30! EXETER CHAPEL!

Well, we say ‘rehearsal’ but really it’s a fun, creative time together singing and learning songs, rather than a formal rehearsing something. If you’ve never been before, now is your chance to come along - but if you can’t make it, newcomers are still welcome every week. We’ll be at Exeter Chapel every Tuesday evening for the rest of this term.

That is all.

Simon.

Hello,

Soon Hilary Term 2008 (AD) will be gone forever, but before it breathes it’s last, there’s just time for one more Rev!

As it’s the last week of term, we’re doing something a bit different:
Meet on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Chapel at Exeter College, as normal, for an hour of the choir rehearsals we love so much, then, at 8.30pm, we will leave and go for a group meal (almost certainly at the Noodle bar depends a bit on numbers). After that, there may well be drinks or G&Ds to end the night, SO, REMEMBER to bring a little money for food. No need to pre-book, just make sure you’re at the Chapel before we leave.

In other news, we’ve just had confirmed that the rehearsals next term will also be in Exeter Chapel. MANY THANKS to the Exeter student who booked that up for us :o)

Hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow, otherwise have a wonderful Easter vacation and look forward to seeing you next term!

Si.
